Types of Aid

A variety of financial aid options are available at both Sciences Po and the Columbia University School of General Studies.

Dual BA Program students are charged the tuition rate of the institution they are currently attending. Similarly, students are awarded financial aid by the institution in which they are enrolled. If eligible, students will receive financial aid directly from Sciences Po for the first two years of the program. And, if eligible, students will receive financial aid directly from the School of General Studies for the second two years of the program.

The financial aid application process differs for incoming and continuing Dual BA Program students. Please see Apply for Financial Aid for specific information about applying for financial aid as an applicant and/or current student.

Years One and Two: Sciences Po

Sciences Po administers financial aid during the first two years of enrollment in the Dual BA Program. Scholarship awards are offered through the Emile Boutmy Scholarship program. Eligible students are first time applicants, from a non-European Union state, whose household does not file taxes within the European Union, and who have been admitted to the undergraduate program.

For more information about scholarships available to students within the European Union, visit the Sciences Po website.

    Scholarship Opportunities

The Emile Boutmy Scholarship is a limited and highly selective scholarship based on a review of the student’s demonstrated record of excellence and socioeconomic background. Eligible students applying for financial aid as part of their application for admission to the Dual BA Program will automatically receive consideration for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship.

The Emile Boutmy Scholarship can take several different forms, ranging from a tuition grant of €3,000 to €12,300 per year for the two years at Sciences Po.

If a scholarship recipient's results are within the top ten percent of their year group at the end of the first year, the recipient will be eligible for a revision of the amount of the scholarship. If a recipient's academic results are not within the top 50 percent of their year group at the end of the first year, the recipient will forfeit their right to the scholarship for the second year. In addition, students who have been granted a scholarship and decide to defer admission will lose their scholarship.

The Emile Boutmy Scholarship may not be supplemented with other scholarships (e.g., Eiffel scholarship, AEFE scholarship, BGF, etc.).

Students who are not eligible for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship include:
    • European Union students, since they may be entitled to sliding-scale tuition rates
    • Swiss and Norwegian applicants, since they may be entitled to CROUS scholarships
    • Candidates who have dual citizenship, including from a European Union state

Please note: While European Union members are not eligible for Emile Boutmy Scholarship consideration, they must complete the scholarship application process as part of their application for admission in order to be considered for financial aid by the School of General Studies during years three and four of the program.

Starting in 2017, Sciences Po began offering a merit-based scholarship for students in order to help promote and strengthen the cultural connections of the American and French people.
