Sixty-one graduates of the Dual BA Program Between Columbia University and Sciences Po—the largest number since the Program began—were among the 585 graduates honored at the GS Class Day ceremony on Monday, May 15, 2017.
School of General Studies Dean Peter J. Awn welcomed guests, faculty, and administrators before addressing the graduates.
"There are two major factors that make GS unique. First, we actively recruit students who have taken an untraditional path and mainstream them fully into a traditional and rigorous undergraduate program. Second, we are the incubator for innovative dual and joint bachelor's degree programs that offer students a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge international education," Awn said.
This year’s Dual BA Program graduates hail from several countries and, after spending two years at Sciences Po satisfying degree requirements, completed a range of majors at Columbia including economics, political science, human rights, neuroscience and behavior, sustainable development, urban studies, information science, and psychology. Thirty-seven are members of the GS Honor Society, and twenty-one were inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
After the Class Day ceremony concluded, Dual BA Program graduates and their families attended a luncheon celebrating their accomplishments, where they were joined by Cornelia Woll, Provost of Sciences Po, Alessia LeFebure, Director of the Alliance Program, and Peter J. Awn, Dean of the School of General Studies.
The Dual BA Program between Columbia University and Sciences Po offers a truly global undergraduate experience unlike any other. Dual BA students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in two distinct academic, social, and cultural environments: a close-knit college in a French regional setting focusing on the social sciences and a large research university in New York City. Upon completion of the program, graduates are awarded two bachelor’s degrees—one from Sciences Po and one from Columbia University, and are guaranteed admission to a master's program at Sciences Po Paris.
